Ten Things I Love

Ten things I love? That goes against my upbringing. As my dad used to remind me often, a wise man once told my grandmother, "We love people [Mrs. J] we like things." But I've been tagged, so it looks like I'll have to forget that and think about what I like most. This is going to take some thinking, so I believe I will make it a ten part series.

PS. I would love any comments or criticisms on my writting/blogging, as I would like to improve both. Any suggestions would be great (especially about my writing.)

  • Hi Sarah

Thanks for explaining to me via Dave's blog how you get the comments in an email.

I like this idea as well, but why 10? Not nine or eleven? Amy Tan, in The Bonesetter's Daughter, guesses that we make lists in 5's and 10's because of our fingers. The main character makes to-do lists that are five or ten items long and uses her digits to help her remember them, but sometimes has trouble remembering the role of a specific finger.. task #9. And sometimes will bring a toe into play on a crowded day.

Anyway, is this a top ten list or just a list of ten? Is it in order? Do you know in advance what they are? After all, you didn't call it "THE 10 things I Love." Reading your thoughts and looking at your photos, I would guess there are way more than 10 things you love. I look forward to seeing how you resolve this as you go along. Don't hesitate to break your construct and write about something else in the meantime. I don't think any of your fans will object.

I glanced at the BYU online calendar to see when you have finals. I was just interested because you have caused me to reminisce about the ebb and flow of my college years (Stanford '68). Then I noticed that during the month of June you will constantly be confronted with Drama Dept posters for the play "Sarah, Plain and Tall". You aren't "plain" in any way (but what an interesting word) and I have no idea of your vertical advantage, but I'm not sure I'd like it anyway "Bob, ______ & ______" on every kiosk unless I got to pick the attributes. Do they still have kiosks on campuses?

  • I'm doing 10 things because that was the challenge I was given. I think we do things in groups of 5 and 10 because we use a base 10 number system and working with 5s and 10s is easier than working with groups of 9.
I'm not actually taking classes right now, but I will start again in the fall.
